In response to the evolving COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Chicago has joined the State of Illinois in issuing a Stay at Home order effective Saturday, March 21st at 5pm CT. In addition, City of Chicago facilities are closed to the public. Staff are prioritizing essential services to protect the health and safety of our residents and employees. For buildings with basement and/or attic space illegally converted into apartment use without a building permit (either by current or previous building owner), the building owner is required to obtain an Easy Permit and deconvert the basement and/or attic space to legal use according to the Chicago Building Code. Easy Permits may be obtained at City Hall, Room 900, Monday through Friday: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
