Phase Three of City's Reopening Framework

May 28, 2020
Dear Industry Partners,
As Chicago looks to transition from phase two to phase three in the reopening framework, the Department of Buildings (DOB) remains committed to safety precautions that help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and protect the health and safety of city residents.

Since construction was deemed an essential service under Governor Pritzker's 'Stay at Home' Executive Order, DOB staff has continued to remotely process permits, complete inspections and make ourselves available to answer questions and assist you in any way possible. We have also made sure the construction industry was aware of the guidance from the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) for safety on job sites and we have included the most updated CDPH construction guidelines here.
This week, CDPH also announced new industry guidelines for Commercial Real Estate and Residential Real Estate.
DOB offices remain closed to the public at this time. However, the following protocol is still in place for you to manage your Department of Buildings needs via a call, email or online.
For additional questions, please see the DOB Frequently Asked Questions and click here for information on the City's reopening framework.
I can't thank you enough for your continued cooperation during this challenging time, especially tradesmen and other construction professionals who have been working each day. We will continue to provide you with new information as the City moves forward.
