The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) along with Mayor Lori Lightfoot and the local music industry are thrilled to partner with you to promote Chicago In Tune, a new citywide festival celebrating music in the key of Chicago — during the 2021 Year of Chicago Music.

Chicago In Tune (August 19 – September 19) is a new citywide festival celebrating music in the key of Chicago — during the 2021 Year of Chicago Music. This month of music will bring iconic neighborhood venues, presenting organizations, and musicians from across the city together to celebrate all music genres and forms — with both large and small, free and ticketed events at clubs, concert halls, and beyond. Highlights include The Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash in Douglass Park (August 20–22), Ruido Fest in Union Park (August 20–22), ARC Music Festival in Union Park (September 4 & 5), Pitchfork Music Festival Chicago in Union Park (September 10–12), Riot Fest in Douglass Park (September 17–19) — and “Music Lives Here,” a new public art initiative. As part of Chicago In Tune, City of Chicago DCASE will present four special evenings at Jay Pritzker Pavilion honoring music born and innovated in Chicago, presented by the Millennium Park Foundation: Gospel music (September 3), Jazz (September 4), House (September 11), and Blues (September 18) — all at 5:30–8:30pm. In support of Chicago’s diverse and legendary music industry, Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events have designated 2021 as the “Year of Chicago Music.” This citywide focus on music is one of the first of its kind in the U.S. The City of Chicago and its partners working with the local music industry will present "Chicago In Tune" (August 19 – September 19), a new annual music festival; launch a major marketing campaign for Chicago music; provide additional financial grants for musicians and music projects; encourage dialog around inclusion and equity; and call on civic, philanthropic, arts and business leaders to support the music industry. Music in the Key of Chicago

In partnership with Choose Chicago and marketing agency FCB, Chicago has unveiled its first ever music brand, “Music in the Key of Chicago,” positioning Chicago as one of the greatest world music capitals. Using this new brand positioning, Choose Chicago is launching a regional/national marketing campaign as well as hosting music-themed individual and group media visits throughout the year; and media promotional events.

 

Chicago Music Brand Manifesto:
