Chicago’s Lead Safe API is a free service available to Chicago hospitals and health networks to estimate the risk that a child will be exposed to lead-based paint hazards. Health providers can submit patient information to the API, and they receive a risk score and a response that is conditional on the score. The response is meant to be incorporated into the Electronic Health Record system in real time during patient visits. The score is calculated by a predictive model that was developed in collaboration with the University of Chicago.
