City Sticker Amnesty and Debt Relief

Who needs to buy a City Sticker?

All Chicago residents driving, parking, leasing and/or owning a vehicle for which they are responsible in the City of Chicago are subject to the Chicago Wheel Tax and must purchase a Chicago City Sticker. This includes Chicago residents that maintain their vehicle registration outside of the City of Chicago, but use the vehicle in the City.

We want motorists to avoid costly tickets. You must purchase a Chicago Sticker within 30 days of residing in the City or acquiring a new vehicle to avoid late fees and fines.

What is the City Sticker amnesty and debt relief program?

There are two steps.

  • Step one: During the month of October, anyone may purchase a City Sticker from the City Clerk without having to pay late fees or back charges.
  • Step two: Then, anyone that is in compliance with their City Sticker by the end of October will be able to apply online starting November 15, 2019 to have at least three City Vehicle Sticker tickets forgiven.  The application period will run from November 15, 2019 through December 15, 2019.

Are parking tickets or other tickets part of this?

No, this program only applies to buying a City Sticker and forgiving City Sticker tickets.

What should I do to take advantage of the City Sticker amnesty and debt forgiveness programs?

First, make sure you are in compliance with your City Sticker by October 31, 2019.

If you don’t currently have a City Sticker, make sure to buy one during October. Go to chicityclerk.com or Chicago.gov/citystickerdebtrelief to find out where you can purchase a City Sticker. Beginning October 1, 2019, the Office of the City Clerk will also have a new Reduced Term City Sticker available for purchase to make it easier than ever to make sure you are in compliance.

If you have a valid City Sticker already, just wait until November 15, 2019.

Then, after November 15, 2019, go to Chicago.gov/citystickerdebtrelief to request ticket debt forgiveness. Everyone with a valid City sticker is eligible for forgiveness of at least three City Sticker tickets.
