Mayor Richard M. Daley today appointed Dr. Bryan Traubert to the Board of Commissioners of the Chicago Park District and recommended that Traubert be elected President by the other commissioners.
Traubert, 55, has practiced ophthalmology in Chicago for 25 years and is active in numerous civic organizations.
"I've asked him to assure that the Park District is doing everything possible to maintain quality parks and programs in every neighborhood across Chicago and to provide programs that protect our city's children and keep them involved in positive activities and away from violence," Daley added.
Traubert currently serves as chairman of the board of Marwen, an organization that provides high level art instruction and college counseling to thousands of under-served Chicago Public Schools students.
He also serves as chairman of the board of Chicago Run, which he began and which provides innovative fitness and running programs to more than 6,000 students in 30 Chicago Public Schools.
In addition, he serves on the board and executive committee of Noble Street Charter Schools, a network of nine charter high schools in Chicago. He is a board member of Chicago Public Radio, the Sprague Institute and the Chicago Lighthouse.
He is a past board member of Children’s Memorial Hospital and the Harvard School of Public Health.
