Mayor Richard M. Daley joined Tim Boyle, President and Chief Executive Officer of Columbia Sportswear today to dedicate the company’s new, one-of-a-kind flagship store located at 830 N. Michigan Ave.
“This new Columbia Sportswear location will bring 30 new jobs to North Michigan Avenue at a time when we most need jobs,” said Mayor Daley. “Community investments, like retail development, are important and that’s why I’d like to thank Columbia Sportswear for making this commitment to our city.”
The Mayor noted that despite these economic times, the value of the real estate on the Magnificent Mile continues to remain strong – which is important because it is a critical piece to the city’s tourism efforts. In fact, last year commercial real estate consultants Cushman and Wakefield ranked Michigan Avenue as one of the only top shopping boulevards in the nation to maintain a healthy retail district.
“This is evident today as retailers like Columbia Sportswear open beautiful,
one-of-a-kind flagship stores on North Michigan Avenue,” said Mayor Daley.
A self-proclaimed biking enthusiast, Mayor Daley said that Columbia Sportswear’s love for the outdoors and dedication to giving back to the community and protecting the environment is a great fit for Chicago. The Mayor has advocated all his life for a healthful environment and lifestyle as part of his overall commitment to make Chicago a place where people want to live, work and raise a family.
“Chicago accomplishes extraordinary things by working together,” said Mayor Daley. “And we are looking forward to a wonderful partnership with Columbia Sportswear.”
