Mayor Richard M. Daley will host Hu Jintao, President of the People’s Republic of China, in Chicago on January 20-21 after the State Visit by the Chinese President to Washington D.C. This will be President Hu’s first visit to Chicago.
President Hu’s visit will highlight the importance of expanding cooperation between our two countries and will focus on education and economic development.
“I look forward to welcoming President Hu to Chicago to continue building a relationship that advances the common interests and shared concerns of China and Chicago – establishing Chicago as China’s economic ‘Gateway to America’,” said Mayor Daley.
The Mayor and Mrs. Daley will host President Hu at a dinner at the Hilton Chicago.
They will also visit Walter Payton College Preparatory High School, which is home to the first Confucius Institute in Chicago, the city’s Chinese cultural education center. It is the first one in the United States located in a K through 12 setting and it has been named Confucius Institute of the Year for the past four years.
Additionally, Mayor Daley and President Hu will tour an exhibition of Chinese businesses that have a presence in the Midwest.
