Interim Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability
Dear Residents of the City of Chicago,
The Chicago City Council Committee on Committees and Rules is in the process of accepting applications to establish the interim Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability as part of the Empowering Communities for Public Safety ordinance, passed July 2021. Members of this interim Commission will serve in a critical role ensuring the work of transforming the relationship between the Chicago Police Department and the communities it serves, building trust and increasing public safety as brought forth by the passage of the ordinance.
Applicants will be asked to speak to their experience relating to community involvement, leadership skills, and a reputation of integrity, among other qualifications that showcase applicants have a strong voice for their community in the direction of policing and safety.
Applications will be accepted through February, 4, 2022. Enclosed is a list of qualifications and a copy of the application. The Committee on Committees and Rules will review applications and will nominate 14 individuals to the Mayor. Per statute, the Mayor will select 7 individuals to establish and serve on the
