Hospital Capacity Dashboard
All Chicago hospitals are required to report bed and ventilator capacity, availability and occupancy to the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) daily. This dashboard summarizes hospital resources across Chicago as of 11:59pm for that calendar day. Data are updated weekly each Friday.
Hospitals report daily to CDPH via EMResource. Reports pulled daily at 11:59 p.m. Hospitals began reporting on March 19, 2020.
ICU bed count includes all adult and pediatric ICU beds in EMS Region XI (Chicago) hospitals. NICU excluded from analysis. Non-ICU bed count includes burn, emergency department, med/surg, other, pediatrics and psychiatry. Ventilator counts include all full-functioning mechanical ventilators, BiPAP, anesthesia machines and portable/transport ventilators. Total available ventilator count includes ventilators in Chicago’s Emergency Asset Management Center (EAMC). PUI = Person Under Investigation (suspected case).
Known reporting updates: 4/2/2020: Hospitals began reporting COVID-19 patients in acute non-ICU beds. 4/24/2020: ICU bed definition changed as requested by HHS. 4/24/2020: ventilator counts include all full-functioning mechanical ventilators, BiPAP, anesthesia machines and portable/transport ventilators. Previously, BiPAP, anesthesia machines and portable/transport ventilators were counted as surge. 05/07/2020: hospitals were given updated reporting instructions that may have impacted reporting. 05/18/2020: hospitals stopped reported surge capacity separately.
