Now through the end of May, Chicago’s vaccinated teens who participated in the Face Forward Project can have their portrait minted into a non-fungible token, or NFT. NFTs are a unique digital identifier that cannot be copied, substituted, or subdivided, that is recorded in a blockchain which is used to certify authenticity and ownership.
The Face Forward Project is the City’s COVID-19 vaccination campaign encouraging Chicago’s youth to get vaccinated in order to protect their future and the NFTs are inspired by the theme of the Project’s youth anthem, “One of One.” The song focuses on the uniqueness and optimism of the city’s youth and their dreams for the future. Original portraits were taken by famed Chicago photographer and 2021 Mayor’s Medal of Honor recipient Sandro Miller.
Just as every portrait is a one-of-a-kind work of art, every NFT gifted to the teens by VAST is one-of-one. Teens can retain their NFT in perpetuity or have the option of placing it for sale on the multimedia marketplace. The NFTs are being gifted to the teens by VAST, a multimedia marketplace for NFT-enhanced content. Anyone who participated in the project can email firstname.lastname@example.org by the end of the month to claim their NFT.
Each NFT will contain an excerpt from Chicago native and two-time Grammy Award winning artist and producer Keith Harris’ hit single “ONE OF ONE.” The song which features BJ The Chicago Kid and the city’s teens is available on Apple Music, Spotify, and Instagram.
