Land Sales Home

The Department of Planning and Development offers opportunities to purchase and redevelop City-owned vacant land in line with community priorities.

Decades of disinvestment and structural racism have led to high concentrations of City-owned vacant land on the South and West sides of Chicago. This has contributed to the proliferation of neighborhood blight, reduced community safety, and hindered neighborhood vitality.

DPD aims to take steps toward addressing this equity issue by making City-owned real estate available for sale. The goals of neighborhood-driven land sales are to attract local investment, give local residents greater control over vacant land in their neighborhood, create wealth in communities, and ensure land gets put to productive use in a community-driven and equitable manner.
