Spring 2023 DuSable Lake Shore Drive Resurfacing – Traffic Updates

The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) is resurfacing North DuSable Lake Shore Drive (DLSD) between LaSalle Drive and Lawrence Avenue, beginning April 16. This page includes the latest expected traffic impact information, including lane and ramp closures. Schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather and other emergencies.

The project includes extended evening and overnight hours, in addition to off-rush daytime work, to complete the resurfacing by mid-June. The work will include milling and resurfacing the existing asphalt roadway pavement and repairs to the concrete deck of the DLSD viaduct over Montrose Drive.

The limits of the work will be LaSalle Drive to Lawrence Avenue in the northbound direction and Lawrence Avenue to Irving Park Road in the southbound direction. All lanes in the southbound direction will be fully reopened to traffic during the morning rush period and all northbound lanes will be fully reopened to traffic in the afternoon rush period.

CDOT advises drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time when traveling on DLSD, to take alternate routes if possible, and encourages people to use public transportation. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and construction signage when entering and driving near work zones, obey the posted speed limits, drive with extra caution, and be alert for workers and equipment.
