Update on the Superintendent Search

January 17, 2020

Police Board President Ghian Foreman provided an update on the Superintendent search at the Police Board's January 16 public meeting:

As we announced earlier this week, the application period for the position of Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department is now closed.

We reported Monday evening that we received 23 applications. On Tuesday morning we received from the U.S. Post Office two additional applications that we sent via Priority Express Mail and were scheduled for delivery by January 10, which was before our deadline. We have therefore accepted these applications, which brings the number we have received to 25.  Here is a breakdown of the applicants:

13 White, 11 African-American, 1 Hispanic

21 men, 4 women

11 applicants are from the Chicago Police Department or spent a significant amount of their career with the CPD

We are now thoroughly reviewing all applications, and we plan to plan to complete by the end of this month an initial round of in-depth interviews with the best-qualified candidates.

As you know, our duty under the Municipal Code is to nominate three finalists for the position to the Mayor. The names of the three nominees that the Board submits to the Mayor will be made public.
