Overview

CDOT is planning safety improvements, including a new protected bike lane, on Humboldt Boulevard from Grand Avenue to North Avenue. The nearly one mile project will complete a critical link in the regional and local bike network, connecting residents from surrounding areas to Humboldt Park.

Vehicle travel lanes, parking, and bike lanes will be reconfigured to promote safer driving speeds and dedicated space for biking along the corridor. Pedestrian crossings within Humboldt Park will also be added and upgraded to improve safety.

Project Goals & Infrastructure Highlights

  • Create a low-stress biking connection within Humboldt Park and to nearby businesses and other local destinations
  • Promote better access to popular destinations in the Park, like the Fieldhouse, Boat House, and ball parks
  • Concrete protected bike lanes to separate people biking from people driving and increase the safety of everyone on the boulevard
  • Safer pedestrian crossings on Humboldt Blvd and other streets within the Park including raised crosswalks, refuge islands, and rapid delivery curb bumpouts
  • Better organization of the street by clearly delineating space for all users of the street.
