Englewood Mall TIF

Designation: 1989    Expiration: 2025

The Englewood Mall TIF district encompasses an approximately 35-acre area that was part of Chicago's largest neighborhood shopping district until the growth of suburban shopping malls contributed to its gradual decline. The trend continued despite a 1960s redevelopment effort that created a covered concourse for pedestrians and a system of parking lots and roadways around the retail area's perimeter. The TIF was designated to reverse ongoing disinvestment by creating incentives for the mixed-use redevelopment of underutilized and vacant properties along 63rd Street and on blocks to the north. Funds are targeted for site assembly and preparation projects, as well as new utilities, traffic improvements, and related infrastructure work.
