Division Street Streetscape - Dearborn Street to State Street
CDOT streetscape improvement projects consist of infrastructure, pedestrian safety, and placemaking improvements with the goal of creating unified, safe, walkable, and attractive commercial destinations. Streetscape projects foster community and economic growth by prioritizing investments in pedestrian activity, multi-modal transportation, vibrant public spaces, and quality-of-life amenities for local residents.
This project will seek to beautify and expand public space on this popular and vibrant block in the Gold Coast neighborhood by reducing the roadway width and expanding sidewalks. Expanded sidewalks will provide more space for walking, outdoor dining, street trees, and plantings. Community members expressed the desire for better pedestrian safety and circulation, and local businesses wanted more space for outdoor dining to support the local economy. Ultimately, the vision for the project is to do both by creating a unique and distinct destination with cohesive streetscape character and more trees and plants.
