Bronzeville Corridor Streetscape Improvements

Bronzeville: 47th Street Rendering

Overview

CDOT streetscape improvement projects consist of infrastructure, pedestrian safety, and placemaking improvements with the goal of creating unified, safe, walkable, and attractive commercial destinations. Streetscape projects foster community and economic growth by prioritizing investments in pedestrian activity, multi-modal transportation, vibrant public spaces, and quality-of-life amenities for local residents.

The vision for the corridor is to support recent efforts to revitalize the Bronzeville neighborhood in honor of its previously rich and culturally impactful history. Community members requested that the streetscape respond to concerns about pedestrian safety and sense of place, while preserving the corridors' walkable form and thriving small businesses. These streetscape improvements present an opportunity to support efforts to re-activate historic neighborhood cores and improve local market conditions to encourage development and benefit Bronzeville residents.
