Greater Englewood Corridor Streetscape Improvements

Halsted Street streetscape rendering

Overview

CDOT streetscape improvement projects consist of infrastructure, pedestrian safety, and placemaking improvements with the goal of creating unified, safe, walkable, and attractive commercial destinations. Streetscape projects foster community and economic growth by prioritizing investments in pedestrian activity, multi-modal transportation, vibrant public spaces, and quality-of-life amenities for local residents.

63rd Street and Halsted Street are key commercial corridors in the Englewood neighborhood that will be refreshed and reactivated by this project to improve quality of life for local residents. The proposed design for Halsted Street includes protected bike lanes, bus bulbs, and pedestrian refuge islands to improve safety and reduce speeding. The proposed design for 63rd Street includes widened sidewalks, bus lanes, and shorter crossing distances. The project also includes an upgrade of Englewood Plaza to encourage better utilization of this valuable public space. Overall, the project aims to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety and circulation, create a welcoming and accessible commercial corridor, to support local businesses and promote economic development.
