Home and Business Protection Program

Home and Business Protection Program

The City's Home and Business Protection Program (HBPP) helped Chicago residents and business owners obtain tools needed to protect their property and feel safe.

The program allowed residents, business owners, religious and non-profit institutions to take advantage of the program by purchasing equipment and receiving financial reimbursement from the City. HBPP provided rebates up to certain limits that covered the costs of outdoor security cameras, one year of cloud storage for video footage, outdoor motion sensor lighting, and vehicle GPS tracking devices.

  • The HBPP Rebate program issued more than 5,300 checks, totaling close to $1.9 million dollars during its run.
  • Applications were received from all over the City, representing all 77 communities.
  • The program ran from June 2022 to April 2023.

In response to community feedback, The Home and Business Protection Program was expanded to include an Income Based application. The Income Based portion of the program was created to remove the barriers that kept City residents from obtaining security devices. Eligibility was determined based on the level of income per household.

  • Applicants that were approved received a kit consisting of an outdoor wireless, battery powered security camera and an outdoor, solar powered, motion sensing security floodlight.
  • More than 650 device kits were distributed to residents throughout the City.
  • The program ran from September 2022 to May 2023.
