City departments have different functions that help serve Chicagoans, including service delivery, resource distribution, policy creation, etc. Our job is to guide City departments to show up for Chicagoans more equitably through their day-to-day operations. We help city departments normalize concepts of racial equity, organize staff to work together for transformational change, and operationalize new practices, policies, and procedures that result in more fair and just outcomes.

City departments identify racial equity commitments in their Racial Equity Action Plans (REAPs) and participate in the Budget Equity process to track their progress. Each year, City departments accomplish transformative, equitable work in priority areas such as education, public safety, housing, etc. Each priority area has a desired result, or an ideal outcome we would like to see for all Chicagoans.
