In response to the evolving COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Chicago has joined the State of Illinois in issuing a Stay at Home order effective Saturday, March 21st at 5pm CT. In addition, City of Chicago facilities are closed to the public. Staff are prioritizing essential services to protect the health and safety of our residents and employees. The City provides consumers with information about their rights and helps in protecting them from fraud and deceptive practices such as mortgage fraud or home repair fraud; provides consumers with information about recalled merchandise and ensures that recalled products are removed from store shelves; and promotes consumer awareness by hosting and attending educational forums throughout the year.
The City helps consumers when they have been victims of fraud and helps to resolve complaints against businesses through mediation. If mediation is unsuccessful, charges may be brought to obtain consumer restitution or fines.
