Geographic Information Systems

The mission of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program is to employ geospatial technology to cost-effectively improve the delivery of services and the quality of decision-making for the City of Chicago.

Security

The Information Security Office (ISO) is responsible for evaluating and responding to cyber risks to the City’s technical estate.

The City of Chicago Data Portal is dedicated to making access to government data and encouraging the development of creative tools to engage and serve Chicago's diverse community. 



Chicago earns Gold Certification - What Works Cities (bloomberg.org)

What Works Cities Certification recognizes and celebrates local governments for their exceptional use of data to inform policy decisions, allocate funding, equitably improve services, evaluate the effectiveness of programs, and engage residents. Open to cities in North, Central, and South America with a population of at least 30,000, What Works Cities Certification welcomes cities at all points in their data journey.

In May 2022, the City launched the Chicago Digital Equity Council (DEC), bringing together a cross-sector group of community members most burdened by the digital divide, and organizations committed to eliminating digital inequities, to close Chicago’s digital divide once and for all.
