Chi100 - Renewable Power for a Sustainable Future

Chi 100 Logo

As of January 1, 2025, the City of Chicago is sourced by 100% renewable energy! From O’Hare Airport to Harold Washington Library, all City buildings are part of this renewable energy transition. This is just the first step toward ensuring all electricity consumed in Chicago is sourced from clean, renewable sources by 2035.

Library Solar

In July 2025, the City took the next step toward expanding renewable energy by unveiling our first two Library Solar projects. The City completed rooftop solar installations and full energy retrofits at the Humboldt Park and South Chicago branches of the Chicago Public Library.

These improvements are expected to help reduce energy use and emissions and build neighborhood resilience to climate change. Learn more in the press release.
