Plan to be Presented at Open House and Public Hearing

Chicagoans are invited to an open house and public hearing next month for the presentation of the Framework Plan for the Bloomingdale Trail and Park, Chicago’s first elevated, multiā€use linear park and bike trail.

The presentation and meeting will be held on Thursday, March 8th, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Yates Elementary School, located at 1839 N. Richmond St. in Chicago.

The Chicago Departments of Transportation and Housing and Economic Development, the Chicago Park District, and The Trust for Public Land are collaborating on preliminary design work for the Bloomingdale Trail. The preliminary design process includes several public meetings seeking feedback, an inventory of the condition of the Bloomingdale Trail site, a design charrette, geotechnical and environmental studies, and the creation of design guidelines and a phasing plan.

At the March 8th meeting, City of Chicago and Park District officials will present the Bloomingdale Trail Framework and construction phasing plans, as well as preliminary cost estimates. The evening will consist of:

  • An open house from 5:00-6:00 p.m., when community members can review renderings of the Bloomingdale and discuss the project with the designers, architects, engineers, and City and Park District officials involved, and submit any comments they may have.
  • A presentation and question-and-answer session from 6:00-7:30 p.m., during which the Bloomingdale Framework Plan will be shown.  A transcript will be made of the presentation and the Q&A.
  • An open house from 7:30-8:00 p.m. will give community members another opportunity to speak with officials and design team members informally, as well as submit any comments they may have.
