Lower Level LSD between Grand Ave. and Wacker Dr. Closed Wednesday for Resurfacing Related Repairs
Northbound Lower Lake Shore Drive Closure from Wacker Dr. to Illinois St
The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) announced that it needs to close the northbound lanes of lower level of LSD between Wacker Dr. and Illinois St. on Wednesday, September 5 at 8:00 PM through Tuesday, September 11 at 3:00 PM. to repair failing road structures prior to resurfacing the upper level of LSD. This closure will include the ramp from northbound Lower LSD to northbound Upper LSD. This repair work will be completed by Sept. 11, weather permitting.
The northbound Lake Shore Drive exit ramp to Randolph Street and Wacker Drive will remain open. However, northbound traffic will not be allowed proceed on the lower Lake Shore Drive Bridge across the Chicago River. Traffic will be detoured west on Wacker Drive and can either utilize Columbus Drive or Michigan Avenue.
Eastbound lower Wacker Drive will be closed at Columbus Dr. and only local access will be permitted between Columbus Drive and Lake Shore Drive. Traffic will be detoured utilizing Columbus Dr. north to Illinois Street or south to Monroe St. to access Lake Shore Drive.
Lake Front Trail Closure from Randolph to Grand:
The Lake Front Trail will be closed between Randolph St. and Illinois St. on Wednesday, September 5 from 11:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. Thursday, September 6. Following that, intermittent flagged closures of the trail will be ongoing throughout the completion of this part of the project. Northbound pedestrians and cyclists should use Randolph Street to Columbus Dr. to Illinois Street. Southbound pedestrian and cyclists would use Illinois St. to Columbus Dr. to Randolph St.
Southbound Lower Lake Shore Drive Closure – Grand to Wacker Drive:
Southbound traffic on Lower LSD will be closed at 8:00 PM. on Wednesday, September 5 until 6:00 AM on Thursday, September 6. All traffic will be detoured west and can use either Columbus Drive or Michigan Avenue. Following that, single lane closures or intermittent 15 minute full closures during off peak hours may be needed until the road surface is prepared for new pavement.
