Acting as the Chief Electrical Engineer for the Department of Transportation, this position is responsible for the management of staff that oversee the planning, design and construction management of the City's electrical infrastructure which includes but is not limited to roadway lighting, traffic signals and traffic signal operations. This position is responsible for managing staff to conduct field surveys of the existing electrical infrastructure and to plan, design and construct new facilities that will upgrade the current infrastructure.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
·Attend meetings with staff and consultants to determine scope, costs and specifications for projects such as new street lighting, traffic signals, traffic signal interconnects and movable bridges
·Direct staff and consultants functioning as design and resident engineers to ensure work is completed according to specifications and project time lines
·Direct the preparation of project status and cost reports to management and funding agencies
·Represents City at community meetings and businesses affected by projects
·Develops work standards and conducts performance evaluations of staff
·Establishes, modifies and implements policies and procedures relative to engineering operations
·Reviews existing plans and facilities and establishes a program to upgrade the existing infrastructure

Hours: 8:30am to 4:30pm

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering supplemented by four years of progressively responsible supervisory experience in the planning, design and construction management of engineering projects
Registration as a Professional Engineer (R.P.E.) in the State of Illinois is required
