South Lake Shore Drive to Close Friday, September 23, and Saturday, September 24.

The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) announced that completing the construction of a new pedestrian bridge requires the full closure of Lake Shore Drive to remove the steel structure that was being used to support the main portion of the bridge during this summer’s construction.  The bridge is expected to be complete and open later this fall.

Northbound Lake Shore Drive will be closed to traffic between 39th Street and the I-55 interchange. Southbound Lake Shore Drive will be closed from 31st to 39th.  The closures are scheduled to run from 8:00pm Friday through noon on Saturday.

Motorists traveling southbound on Lake Shore Drive will be detoured to Martin Luther King Drive from 31st Street and may reenter Lake Shore Drive at 39th Street.  Northbound travelers can use State Street from 39th Street to the I-55 interchange.
