Traffic Signals/Traffic Lights

The Department of Transportation Bureau of Electrical Operations maintains Chicago’s 3, 035 traffic signalized intersections. Over the past several years 1,014 intersections have been upgraded using energy efficient Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology.

Since 2001, 367 intersections have been retrofitted with uninterruptible power supplies in the event of power outages and emergencies. In 2006, all incandescent traffic signals were relamped and cleaned.

Citizens are encouraged to report any outages or malfunctioning signals by calling 311 or reporting mobile app or online via CHI 311.
