The April 2011 opening of Dr. King Legacy Apartments completed the first phase of a plan to create a historic district where Dr. Martin Luther King lived with his family in 1966. The $17 million, 45-unit affordable rental project by Lawndale Christian Development Corp. includes 6,000 square feet of commercial space along 16th Street. Future phases include a new park, cultural center, library, and a memorial to Dr. King’s life and legacy.
