In response to the evolving COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Chicago has joined the State of Illinois in issuing a Stay at Home order effective Saturday, March 21st at 5pm CT. In addition, City of Chicago facilities are closed to the public. Staff are prioritizing essential services to protect the health and safety of our residents and employees. As such, we may be delayed in responding to non-essential inquiries and service requests. To stay up to date on the City of Chicago’s COVID-19 response, please visit the City Coronavirus Response Center site.
More than 1.5 million, heavy duty plastic 96-gallon garbage carts with tight fitted lids often referred to as super carts are supplied free to single-family residences and apartment buildings of four units or less. These free carts, combined with the rodenticide we strategically place deep inside rat burrows, are the key reasons for the decline of rats in our city.
Missing or damaged carts are replaced free of charge by the Bureau of Sanitation. Residents can call 311 or submit a request onlien for a replacement garbage cart.
If you wish to request a garbage cart for new refuse collection of a newly constructed or newly rehabbed dwelling, please call 311.
