After a successful launch last weekend, Divvy and T-Mobile are again offering free bike rides for the next two Saturdays – September 12th and 19th. More than 5,600 people took advantage of the offer last Saturday, the first time the concept had been tested in Chicago.

Once again, Divvy will be boosting its Valet Service on those days to accommodate the expected increase in ridership, with ambassadors available at popular, high volume stations. Valet Service is designed to guarantee dock space for bikes, even at the busiest stations, and to help riders learn about the bike share system.

Special Divvy Valet Service is also being offered for the Bears’ regular season home opener on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Museum Campus Divvy station near Soldier Field, and for the Riot Fest music festival in Douglas Park,at the Divvy Station near California and Ogden Avenue, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The Divvy program, operated by Motivate (http://www.motivateco.com) on behalf of the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), consists of a fleet of more than 4,700 specially designed, heavy-duty, highly durable bikes that are locked into a network of docking stations located throughout Chicago.

“We were very pleased to the see the high level of interest demonstrated in the first-ever day of free Divvy rides offered in Chicago, and we hope to build on that over the next two Saturdays,” CDOT Commissioner Rebekah Scheinfeld said.

Taking advantage of the promotion is easy. On September 12th and 19th, riders can walk up to any Divvy station, select “Get a Bike” and follow the prompts on the screen. The 24-Hour Pass, regularly $9.95, will be available at no charge, thanks to T-Mobile, when purchased on any of these three days. A credit or debit card is required as usage fees still

will apply to all trips over 30 minutes. Riders can choose to take multiple rides during the 24-hour period by going to the kiosk and selecting “Request a New Ride Code”.

For video instructions on how to access the free rides, Chicagoans and visitors can go to www.DivvyBikes.com/video.

Station locations and real-time bike and dock availability can be viewed at www.DivvyBikes.com/stations or by downloading the free “CycleFinder” app for iPhone or Android devices.

Additionally, Divvy is offering an “End of Summer” promotion for annual memberships, in which new members who sign up in September will receive a thirteenth month free for the regular price of $75. Chicagoans can sign up within minutes at www.DivvyBikes.com/membership and will be mailed a key fob that can unlock a bike at any station across the city. The key entitles members to take as many 30-minute trips throughout the year as they want. Trips over 30 minutes incur incremental usage fees, which can be found on the Divvy website.

Divvy has added 175 new stations this year and is now the largest bike share system in North America based on the number of stations and the size of our service area in North America, thanks in part to the support and sponsorship of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois
