As part of the arterial resurfacing project on Damen Avenue in the 40^th and 47^th Wards, CDOT will be installing raised crosswalks and raised intersections at several locations to improve visibility and safety for people crossing the street. 

Starting Monday, June 23, raised crosswalk work is underway on Damen at the intersections of Giddings Street, Ainslie Street, and Berwyn Avenue. Work will begin on the west side of Damen, closing the west leg of these intersections to traffic for approximately one week. Then for the intersection of Damen at Ainslie, the east leg will be closed to traffic for approximately one week.

Beginning the week of July 7, CDOT will begin installing raised intersections at the intersections of Winnemac Avenue, Leland Avenue, and Winona Street. This work will require partial closures of these intersections to thru traffic. For approximately two weeks, southbound traffic on Damen will be impacted.

Motorists should detour east on Foster, south on Wolcott, and then return to Damen via Wilson. Damen will remain open between Lawrence and Argyle. During the following two weeks, northbound traffic on Damen will be impacted. Motorists should detour west on Wilson, north on Leavitt, and then return to Damen via Foster. Damen will remain open between Lawrence and Argyle.

People biking are encouraged to use the Leavitt Street Neighborhood Greenway which runs parallel to Damen.
