Employment Litigation Chief Assistant Corporation Counsel Vacancy

The City of Chicago Law Department is seeking an attorney for the position of Chief Assistant Corporation Counsel in the Employment Litigation Division to litigate and supervise the defense of all City Departments and the City in federal and state constitutional and statutory employment discrimination lawsuits brought by current and former employees. The Chief Assistant Corporation Counsel will work under the general supervision of the Deputy Corporation Counsel of the Employment Litigation Division and will have significant responsibility in supervising litigation, counseling client departments and City policy-makers, working on budgetary matters and supervising the attorneys assigned to the Division's cases. The Chief Assistant Corporation Counsel will also litigate high profile and other complex cases, primarily in federal court.

Qualifications:

Graduation from an ABA accredited law school, admission to the Illinois Bar (or another state bar having reciprocity with Illinois) on or before May 2001 and a minimum of ten (10) years of legal experience as a licensed attorney, a minimum of two (2) years of experience supervising other attorneys and litigation experience in state or federal court.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

Superior writing, research and editing skills; knowledge of employment law; litigation experience in federal court including motion practice, deposition and fact and expert discovery experience; prior jury trial experience; exceptional client counseling and organizational skills; the ability to work well with others; the ability to exhibit leadership and initiative on assigned tasks; the highest ethical standards and integrity; and the ability to organize, prioritize, monitor and control workflow deadlines.
