Sewer System

Dedicated to keeping Chicago running clean

The Sewer System Program provides the replacement of deteriorated and/or undersized sewers based on hydraulic evaluation, maintenance and repair records.

Ongoing Programs

Sewer Rehabilitation Program

The Sewer Rehabilitation program includes proactively lining sewer and catch basins, cleaning out sewer assets, and repairing defective private drain connections. Operations are overseen by the Department of Waste Management (DWM).

Sewer Replacement/Construction

Over $780 million allocated to replacing deficient and defective sewer systems, with the intent to replace such systems with new larger pipes. These efforts reduce the likelihood of basement backup.
