The Chicago Police Department, Chicago Fire Department/Emergency Medical Services and the Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) provide public safety for residents and visitors in Chicago, including City’s planning for issues related to Homeland Security.  The Public Safety Consortium consists of key departments and agencies dedicated to public safety and security, including the Police, Fire, Aviation, Public Health, OEMC and CTA.

Several city departments maintain public safety initiatives including the Chicago Department of Transportation (Safe Streets, Pedestrian and Bike Safety Program and) the City of Chicago Department of Buildings (is dedicated to advancing public safety through code enforcement, community partnerships and creative use of technology to make Chicago a safe place to live, work and play) and Business Affairs & Consumer Protection (ensures a fair & vibrant market place for businesses & consumers by licensing Chicago's businesses and public vehicles, providing business education & protecting consumers from unfair practices.)
