Policies the Commission is Working On

Under Chicago Municipal Code 2-80-110, the Commission has the authority to create, amend, request, review, and approve policies for CPD, COPA, and the Police Board.

Policies Introduced by the Commission

If the Commission creates a policy for CPD, COPA, or the Police Board, the receiving agency has 60 days to submit comments and suggestions. The Commission then has 14 days to respond to the comments and suggestions. If the agencies are not in agreement, they must work together for at least 30 days to reach an agreement on the proposed policy. The Commission can then move forward with scheduling a vote on whether to approve or reject the policy.
