Fire Prevention Code Interpretation

CODE SECTION 901.1

Code Section 901.1 (modification of reference standards) authorizes the fire code official to promulgate rules, not inconsistent with this code, which modify referenced standards for the design of fire protection systems. This is done for consistency with existing installations and to be consistent with the operations of the Chicago Fire Department. The intent here is to not drastically change sprinkler system and standpipe system designs from one building to another which could have an adverse effect on the day-to-day operations of the Chicago Fire Department. Additional memos will follow this one to clarify these rules.
