After School Matters’s planned Orleans Teen Center on the Near North Side would receive $5 million in Tax Increment Financing (TIF) support through a proposal introduced to City Council today by Mayor Brandon Johnson.

The $26 million project at 1065 N. Orleans St. includes 36,000 square feet of renovated space that would serve 2,100 teens annually, with programming focused on culinary, trades and STEM skills. The building was originally operated St. Joseph School, which closed in 2002.

TIF assistance for the project would be provided through the Near North TIF district.
