North/Cicero TIF

Designation: 1997    Expiration: 2021

The North/Cicero TIF district encompasses 47 acres of primarily commercial, institutional and industrial land along major arterial streets in the northwest portion of the Austin community. The purpose of the district is to support the comprehensive redevelopment of the southwest corner of North and Cicero avenues with a new shopping complex and to promote mixed-use investment on vacant and improved parcels to the north and east. The TIF is intended to finance demolition costs where necessary, to help assemble land on behalf of private developers, and to provide infrastructure and utility upgrades. It is also intended to enhance landscaping and pedestrian amenities within the area and to assist with job training and readiness programs that help prepare local residents for full-time employment.
