Read/Dunning TIF

Designation: 1991    Terminated: 2018

Located on the site of the Chicago-Read Mental Health Center, the Read/Dunning TIF district was characterized at the time of its designation by institutional structures in various states of occupancy. The approximately 225-acre TIF was created to facilitate its transfer from public to largely private ownership and to prepare it for a mix of uses. Priorities include continued institutional uses, new industrial projects, commercial projects, and housing development. Funds are intended to facilitate land acquisition efforts, demolition and site preparation costs, new construction, utility improvements, and a variety of street upgrades, including lighting, sewers and landscaping enhancements.
