Statement from Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel on Passage of Education Reform Legislation
Previously posted on May 12, 2011
"The passage of education reform by the Illinois General Assembly represents a historic victory for students in Chicago and across the state. The new law paves the way to a longer school day that offers adequate instructional time for Chicago's children. I want to personally thank Speaker of the House Mike Madigan and Representative Linda Chapa LaVia for successfully passing this bill in the House as well as Senate President Cullerton and Senator Kimberly Lightford for their role in forging the bill in the Senate. Illinois has shown the rest of the nation the way forward by bringing all stakeholders together to put the education of our children first."
