Statement from Mayor Emanuel on Illinois Senate Passage of the Automated Speed Enforcement Legislation Rider

Mayor's Press Office    312.744.3334

This afternoon Mayor Emanuel commended the Illinois Senate for passing the Automated Speed Enforcement legislation rider to protect children and pedestrians near schools and parks.

“I commend the Illinois Senate for today’s vote to protect Chicago’s children. This is a win for our families, a win for pedestrians and a crucial step towards ensuring the safety of our children near schools and parks throughout the city.”

This is one part of the Emanuel Administration’s comprehensive plan to keep children safe across Chicago, including stronger requirements and enforcement of curfew, investing $7 million to install a state-of-the-art security camera system in 14 schools, maintaining the school-based Culture of Calm program in Chicago Public Schools and maintaining Safe Passage funding.
