In response to the evolving COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Chicago has joined the State of Illinois in issuing a Stay at Home order effective Saturday, March 21st at 5pm CT. In addition, City of Chicago facilities are closed to the public. Staff are prioritizing essential services to protect the health and safety of our residents and employees. As such, we may be delayed in responding to non-essential inquiries and service requests. To stay up to date on the City of Chicago’s COVID-19 response, please visit the City Coronavirus Response Center site.
I am pleased that last month, Chicago recorded its lowest unemployment rate since January 2009, as well as the highest number of employed residents since December 2009. I am deeply committed to economic development in all its forms and I will not rest until every Chicagoan can find a job, support their family, and enjoy the quality of life they deserve. These numbers are a direct sign that our efforts are working and a step toward our goal of making Chicago the most competitive, most business-friendly, most economically viable city in the world. I look forward to our chance to continue making progress on this crucial issue.
