“55 years ago, Buddy Guy got on a bus from Louisiana to come to Chicago, and for more than half a century, his unique music and legendary style has filled our ears and our hearts. The Blues is the quintessential American music; and its home is in the most American of American cities, Chicago. Buddy Guy is a Chicago legend and one of the all-time greats. On behalf of the City of Chicago, I congratulate him on receiving the 2012 Kennedy Center honors.”
