Statement from Mayor Emanuel on the Passing of Bishop Timothy Lyne

Mayor's Press Office    312.744.3334

“Chicagoans of all faiths mourn the passing of Bishop Timothy Lyne, a true people’s priest, who presided over generations of Chicago’s faithful – from mayors on down - as well as a large part of the history of Chicago itself.  He was a living model of the 20th century big-city priest - gritty, funny, real – a man who rubbed elbows with the powerful and broke bread with the poor. In more than 70 years serving this great city, Bishop Lyne’s door – just like his heart - was open to all, and in good times as well as bad, he was always there, ready either with his trademark Irish affability or his comforting counsel; whatever the occasion required, he was a man for all seasons, and he will be missed by all.“
