Mayor Rahm Emanuel presented Lindblom Math & Science Academy Principal Alan Mather with the Golden Apple Foundation’s inaugural Stanley C. Golder Award for principals and heads of schools. Mayor Emanuel surprised Principal Mather at a school assembly to present the award.

"I am proud to present this award to Principal Mather to honor the many successful achievements of Lindblom’s faculty, students and administration,” said Mayor Emanuel. “Principal Mather’s leadership, along with that of the phenomenal Lindblom faculty, has impacted the lives thousands of students by putting them on the path to success in the classroom and in life."

Under Principal Mather’s leadership, Lindblom Math & Science Academy has dramatically expanded. In the eight years since Principal Mather re-opened the high school, Lindblom’s on-track graduation rate has increased to 96.5 percent while enrollment at the school has grown from 110 to 1,000 students. Lindblom’s curriculum has grown as well, including the largest Mandarin language curriculum of any Chicago Public School and the largest non-heritage Arabic program in the United States. Lindblom has also partnered with Baxter International and Northwestern University to host a teacher biotechnology training center called the Biotechnology Center of Excellence.
Four Lindblom Math & Science Academy students were recently awarded the Gates Millennium Scholarship, one of the most prestigious grants for high school students.

The Golden Apple Foundation is an Illinois-based nonprofit that works to support teacher excellence across the state. While Golden Apple Awards have been given to teachers for many years, Principal Alan Mather is the first recipient of the Stanley C. Golder Award for principals and heads of schools.
