CHICAGO — Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton today announced a friendly wager on the outcome of the WNBA Finals between the Chicago Sky and the Phoenix Mercury.

At risk in the bet: Chicago is offering Al’s Italian Beef, a six-pack of locally produced Lagunitas IPA beer and Vosges’ Haut-Chocolate bacon & chocolate bars while Phoenix is wagering a meal prepared and sent by Chef Silvana Esparza of Barrio Cafe consisting of the house special the Cochinita pibil, a slow-roasted pork smothered in achiote rojo and sour orange and wrapped in banana leaves accompanied by Barrio Cafe’s signature Low-Rider Margarita.

“I am excited to take part in this wager with our friends from the southwest. I have full confidence that our Chicago Sky will be triumphant in the Finals. I am prepared to send an assortment of Chicago-made delicacies in unlikely case that things don’t go our way, but the Sky have proven throughout this season that they should not be underestimated,” said Mayor Emanuel.

“This dish truly represents the best of Phoenix. Unfortunately, Mayor Emanuel won't get a chance to taste it since I'm confident the Mercury will be victorious. So, I will have to look forward to sampling Al's Italian Beef Sandwich. I hear it's legendary," said Mayor Stanton.

The first game of the five-game series between the Chicago Sky and the Phoenix Mercury will take place Sunday, September 7 at 3:30 p.m. ET at the US Airway Center in Phoenix.
