HELLENIC HERITAGE PARADE In Greektown, Spring Half Marathon at Lakefront Bridge Lifts and other events this weekend

OEMC reminds fans and residents to expect increased traffic in the area and call 9-1-1 to report suspicious activity

Many events are taking place this weekend in Chicago which will attract crowds, impact traffic and increase activity in areas throughout the city.  The Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) is reminding residents and those attending events or in the area to be mindful of surroundings and report any criminal or suspicious situations to 9-1-1. 

 

HELLENIC HERITAGE (GREEK INDEPENDENCE DAY) PARADE  

The Greek Independence Day Parade steps off 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 22 at Halsted Street between Van Buren and Madison.  Commemorating the 200th Anniversary of Greek Declaration of Independence, the parade includes Greektown Agora market running from noon to 6 p.m.  Expect street closures as early as 8:30 a.m. for the assembly, march and disbanding of the parade.  Disbanding is on Halsted, Madison to Randolph.  

 

LIFETIME CHICAGO SPRING HALF MARATHON &10K 

The Spring Half Marathon begins at 7 a.m. at Maggie Daley Park, 337 E. Randolph Street, on Sunday, May 22.  Streets are closed on: 

  • Monroe: Lake Shore Drive to Columbus  
  • Columbus: Madison to Intermediate Randolph  
  • Columbus: Madison to Roosevelt Road
  • Randolph St: 300-525 East 
  • Intermediate Randolph: DuSable Lake Shore Drive to Columbus (Eastbound lanes only)  

In addition, motorists should be aware of the spring bridge lifts from Ashland Avenue to DuSable Lake Shore Drive, which will cause temporary delays as bridges are lifted in succession beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday. 

Also, the Chicago Cubs host Arizona at Wrigley Field with 1:20 p.m. games on Saturday and Sunday.
