The Chicago City Council today approved the City’s acquisition authority for .5 acres of vacant land at 1635 S. Canal St. in the Pilsen Industrial Corridor.

Acquisition authority will enable the City to negotiate the purchase of the site, which could be combined with adjacent City land and a public alley for a future Department of Streets & Sanitation (DSS) facility.

Owned by Goodale Corp., the site consists of seven vacant lots and is used for outdoor storage.

The proposed DSS facility would replace an outmoded complex at 18th and Clark streets, providing enhanced operational efficiency for department vehicles and compatibility with surrounding land uses.
